About Us
Airtrain is a privately owned and operated railway. We commenced operations in May 2001 with license from Queensland Transport. This allows us to build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT Scheme) the Brisbane Airport Rail Link for 35 years. We own 8.5 kilometres of elevated railway and two stations at Brisbane Airport.
You'll find our service is completely integrated into the QR suburban network. Our trains can take you from Brisbane Airport directly to the Brisbane CBD, and then on to the Gold Coast. You can also travel on a single ticket from any station in south-east Queensland to Brisbane Airport.
You might be surprised to know that Airtrain isn't subsidised by the Queensland Government. It was built with private funds at the cost of $220 million. This adds up to 250 piers, 1000 girders weighing 90 tonnes each and 21,000 cubic metres of concrete. You'll find that it breaks records as Australia's longest elevated viaduct.
To ensure the line is always in top condition, we've partnered with Transfield Services (www.transfieldservices.com). As you'd expect, they provide excellent operations and maintenance on the Airtrain rail link.
If you're travelling to and from Brisbane Airport, you can look forward to our high quality level of service. But you shouldn't just take our word for it. We've won the 2009 CSIA Service Excellence Award for the Best Customer Service in Australia (click here to visit the Customer Service Institute of Australia). We also took home this prestigious award in 2007 and 2005. But you'll be glad to know we're not resting on our laurels. We're always looking for ways to make our service even better for you.
