🧠Brain cancer research highlights
At @qimrb_institute, Professor Bryan Day and his team have established a large brain tumour bank to tackle glioblastoma, a deadly form of adult brain cancer. The bank holds hundreds of brain tumour tissue samples collected over almost 15 years, in collaboration with experts at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Professor Day is determined to change the game for brain cancer, which has been in the “too hard basket” for too long. By studying brain tumour cells in the lab, researchers can drive their studies forward, exploring new treatments and giving hope to patients.
Since 2009, the tumour bank has sparked global collaborations, leading to over 50 publications and numerous clinical trials worldwide. Stored at minus 80 degrees Celsius, tissues can be analysed in detail for years to come. The tumour bank enables researchers, clinicians and patients to hope for a brighter future in the fight against this devastating disease.
