Christmas holidays on the Gold Coast: Our top 4 family-friendly activities

It’s no wonder why the Gold Coast welcomes over 5 million visitors a year. The lush rainforests, picturesque beaches and smorgasbord of entertainment options make the Gold Coast the perfect place for a family holiday.

Make your next Gold Coast holiday unforgettable with our top 4 activities that the whole family will love.

#1 Theme park fun for the whole family

The Gold Coast is home to some of the best theme parks in Australia. Boasting Dreamworld, WhiteWater World, Movie World and Wet’n’Wild all within a stone’s throw of one another and Sea World just a short drive away, the Gold Coast is jam-packed with rides to remember and performances to please.

Theme parks are a timeless family day out because they offer something for the whole family. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or prefer to take it nice and easy, you’ll find entertainment for all ages and interests at each of the world-renowned Gold Coast theme parks.

How to get there – Dreamworld, WhiteWater World, Movie World and Wet’n’Wild

Getting from Brisbane airport to the Gold Coast’s premier theme parks is simple. With frequent and fast services, Airtrain will get you to Coomera quickly and comfortably. From here, you can easily access Wet’n’Wild, Dreamworld, WhiteWater World and Movie World via bus, taxi or rideshare services.

How to get there – Sea World

One ticket is all you need to get to Main Beach, Sea World’s home suburb. With Airtrain’s Train and Tram service, simply purchase your ticket and jump on at the Airport stations, hop off at Helensvale station and jump on the G:link to Main Beach station. From there, it’s easy to catch a bus, taxi or rideshare service to Sea World.

#2 Visit the Gold Coast’s famous beaches

The Gold Coast is internationally renowned for its sandy white beaches and seemingly endless sunshine. Stretching across 57 kilometres of coastline, the Gold Coast offers something for the whole family. There are barrels at Burleigh for the surfers and steady waters at Tallebudgera Creek for those who prefer a gentle float.

Grab the whole family and head to one of the Gold Coast’s naturally stunning beaches. An added bonus? After a big day in the sunshine, the little ones will be thoroughly worn out come bedtime.

How to get there:

There are so many beaches to visit on the Gold Coast it can be hard to know where to start. For first-time Gold Coast tourists, we recommend starting off with the crowd-pleasing Surfers Paradise Beach. Simply purchase an Airtrain and Tram ticket, hop on at Airport stations and travel to Helensvale station. Change at Helensvale for the G:link and get off at Cavill Avenue station. From there, the beach is just a short walk away.

#3 Soak up the sunshine at Broadbeach Parklands

Heralded as the “free Disney World of the Gold Coast”, Broadbeach Parklands offers a number of impressive playgrounds, a relaxing beach, public pool, a giant bouncy cushion and a mini water park. There’s plenty of picnic facilities scattered around and over Christmas, there’s a host of events that the whole family can enjoy.

How to get there:

Getting to the Broadwater Parklands is easy with Airtrain. Purchase your Airtrain and Tram tickets online or at the Airtrain counter and head from Brisbane Airport stations to Helensvale. From here, change to the G:link tram service and ride the rail to Broadbeach South for a short walk to the Parklands.

#4 Shop, eat and play at Cavill Avenue

Cavill Avenue is far more than just a shopaholic’s nirvana. You’ll also find plenty of scrumptious eats and loads of family-friendly entertainment. We recommend getting your mind blown at the legendary Ripley’s Believe it or Not, going head-to-head at Timezone Surfers Paradise and solving puzzles at Padlock’d Escape Rooms.

How to get there:

Cavill Avenue is centrally located in Surfers Paradise and has its very own tram stop. To get to Cavill Avenue from the Brisbane Airport, simply purchase an Airtrain and Tram ticket and hop on at your Brisbane airport station. From there, travel to Helensvale station and change to the G:link tram and travel to Cavill Avenue. This is your stop!

Airtrain makes it easy to have the family holiday that you’ve always dreamed of.
