This summer is jam-packed with sport across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with cricket, soccer, surfing, sailing, cycling and more. Summer sports events on the land

Cricket

Australia and West Indies will go head-to-head in the final test series for the summer as part of the Men’s Test Series. From January 25th to 29th. The Gabba will once again play host to an incredible day and night of test cricket that makes for a Brisbane sport event not to be missed.

Soccer

Following a momentous year for football when the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 came to Australia, 2024 continues to deliver for football fans with the Men’s and Women’s A-League. The Brisbane Roar Men’s Team will play at Suncorp Stadium across several dates through to April. While the Brisbane Roar Women’s Team fixtures are interstate, you can catch the games on the screen thanks to 10 Play.

Cycling

Australia’s largest multi-disciplinary cycling event, Brisbane Cycling Festival, is back for another year from March 1st to April 14th. The city-wide sporting celebration of all things cycling is comprised of several major Brisbane sport events, including Tour de Brisbane, AusCycling Track National Championships, Mountain Bike Downhill Championships and Road Championships.

BMX Racing

The UCI BMX Racing World Cup will see hundreds of the world’s best BMX riders compete. The stakes are high as these riders seek to quality for the Olympic Games – and what better place to do it than at the home of the 2032 Olympic Games! Catch the UCI BMX Racing World Cup at Chandler, Brisbane on February 24th and 25th.

 

Summer sports events on the water

Surfing

Surf’s up! The Gold Coast Open returns to Burleigh Heads from February 16th to 18th where some of the best Australian and International surfers will be carving up the waves at this iconic Gold Coast sport event. The Gold Coast Open offers more than professional surfing – it’s all about celebrating the surf and coastal culture that the region is known for. In addition to the surfing comp, there will also be live music, food and drink, beach chill out zones and sunrise yoga.

Boardriding

One of the most highly anticipated events on the Gold Coast sport event calendar, the Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle (ABB) Grand Final is headed to the world-famous point break at Burleigh Heads for 2024. The best boardrider clubs from each state across the country will complete in an epic surfing battle to decide Australia’s best boardrider club. Surfing fans can catch the comp at Burleigh Heads on March 9th and 10th.

Sailing

Australia’s iconic 308 nautical mile Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race is one of the oldest and most prestigious yacht races in the southern hemisphere. While you can’t witness the duration of offshore ocean racing, you can catch the race start where land spectators and around 300 private and commercial vessels gather to kick things off. Visit Shorncliffe in Brisbane on March 29th to send off the sailing crews.

 

Travelling for summer sports events
