Christmas is drawing ever nearer, and shopping is all part of the fun! Our beautiful shopping destinations are getting right into the spirit of the season, creating magical areas full of exciting gifts to discover. From luxury goods to farmers’ markets, and everything in between, there’s something to be found for everyone.

Whether you’re still on the hunt for the perfect gift or just want to make the most of the shopping experience, here are five of South East Queensland’s best shopping destinations for you to finish your Christmas list.

1. Harbour Town

Located on the Gold Coast, Harbour Town is one of Australia’s top outlet shopping destinations. With over 240 retail outlets plus a range of dining options and some Christmas entertainment, it’s a great place to grab a bargain. Visitors can request a complimentary Tourist Discount Card providing access to special offers and further discounts from the Tourism Lounge located at the south-west entry.

2. Pacific Fair

Also on the Gold Coast is the famous Pacific Fair. With over 400 stores including luxury, fashion and global brands, it’s a premium shopping & dining destination. Pacific Fair provides visitors with a complimentary visitor privileges pass, which can be collected from the Visitor Lounge inside the centre.

3. Queen Street Mall

Located right in the heart of Brisbane City, the Queen Street Mall is a long pedestrian stretch lined with an extensive list of retailers, including local, national, and international labels. It is also home to several destinations such as the Casino, the Wintergarden, the Myer Centre, and many other dining, beauty and entertainment options. This Christmas, the Queen Street Mall will host Christmas performers and roving entertainers to make your shopping experience magical.

4. Southbank

Southbank markets are always popular among shoppers, and the Christmas markets are even more special. With plenty of artisan gifts and unique items, you can shop in this Brisbane destination from sunny skies to when the twinkling fairy lights come out. The Christmas Edition of the Collective Markets is being held from the 18th to the 23rd of December.

5. Surfers Paradise

The beachfront markets are a popular destination year-round, but during the holiday season they ramp up to something truly spectacular. Currently held Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, the long stretch of vendors selling unique goods is worth the visit for the beautiful Surfers Paradise location alone.

Getting to your Destination 

Brisbane City is easily in reach from the Brisbane Airport, with Airtrain services running run every 15 minutes on-peak and every 30 minutes off-peak. Your journey to Brisbane City will take only 20 minutes, and you can disembark at your chosen city station – Airtrain runs direct from the Brisbane Airport, but stops at Fortitude Valley, Central, Roma Street, and South Brisbane stations. 

If the Gold Coast is your destination, Airtrain run express to the Gold Coast but stops at all Gold Coast stations, including Ormeau, Coomera, Helensvale (connects with G:link tram at Helensvale station), Nerang, Robina, and Varsity Lakes. From there, trams and buses provide connecting services to other locations around the Gold Coast, or you can take advantage of our AirtrainConnect (Train & Transfer) service.

Brisbane and the Gold Coast are connected by an extensive network of trains, buses, and trams. All Brisbane public transport uses a smart card for travel, or you can purchase a paper ticket.

Short term visitors should check out the go seeQ card, which allows you unlimited travel for 3 or 5 consecutive days on buses, trains, ferries and trams. It also includes 2 Airtrain journeys to/from the Brisbane Airport.

For longer stays, travel like the locals with a go card – just touch on at your station of departure and touch off when you arrive at your destination.
